How long do I have to be separated for before I can file for divorce?

In Australia, you must be separated for at least 12 months before you file your Divorce Application. Of course, you don’t have to wait 12 months to  get property settlement, spousal maintenance and children’s issues sorted (that used to be the law until 1983, but now you can start proceedings for those things immediately if you need to).
